All-inclusive resorts
What Does All-Inclusive Actually Include?
The word “all” is doing a lot of work in “all-inclusive.” Before you book, know what is covered—and what your whole trip will cost.

Start with what your reservation covers
“All-inclusive” describes a package, not one universal list of inclusions. Check your exact resort, room category, and travel dates. Your room, meals, a selection of drinks, and some activities may be bundled together, while flights, transfers, and certain extras may still sit outside the package price.
For example, Beaches lists meals, selected beverages, children's programs, and roundtrip airport transfers among its inclusions. It separately lists extras such as spa treatments, excursions, private dinners, and after-hours nanny services.
Check these details before comparing prices
| Ask about | What you want confirmed |
|---|---|
| Getting there | Are flights and roundtrip airport transfers in this quote? |
| Meals and drinks | Which restaurants and drinks are covered? Are there dining surcharges? |
| Children's programs | Are your children's ages covered, and what are the hours and fees? |
| Activities | Which experiences are included, and which require a separate purchase? |
| The final bill | Which taxes, required charges, and gratuities are already included? |
Children's ages deserve particular attention. At Club Med Cancún, programs for ages 4–17 are included, while programs for younger children cost extra. “Kids' club available” and “childcare included for my child” can mean different things.
Beaches lists taxes and gratuities as included, with an exception allowing tips for butlers and spa therapists. Confirm the policy at the resort you choose.
What an all-inclusive vacation typically costs
Inclusion lists tell only half the story — the other half is the nightly rate. Published 2026 ranges for major Caribbean all-inclusive destinations, per person, per night:
| Tier | Per person, per night (2026) | Typical resorts |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | $120–$200 | 3★ resorts and value brands |
| Mid-range | $200–$400 | 4★ resorts |
| Premium | $400–$500+ | 5★ and luxury brands |
Quoted per room instead? For two adults in Cancún, the same ladder runs about $150–$250 a night at budget resorts, $350–$600 at mid-range 4★ properties, and $800–$1,500+ at luxury 5★ resorts. That is why two honest articles can quote numbers twice as far apart: one is counting per person, the other per room.
For a couple, the resort alone for seven nights lands roughly between $1,700 and $5,600 at these rates — before flights, transfers, and the extras in the next section. Jamaica's floor runs higher than Cancún's or Punta Cana's, and low-season Dominican Republic rates occasionally dip below $100 per person per night. The full breakdown — flights, transfers, extras, and tips stacked into one total — is in our guide to how much an all-inclusive vacation costs, with destination detail for Cancún and Punta Cana. What's usually not included — and what it costs
"All-inclusive" rarely means every dollar. The most common extras, at 2026 prices:
- Airport transfers (when not bundled): shared shuttles run about $25–$50 per person round trip; a private transfer about $70–$160 per vehicle round trip.
- Excursions: about $90–$150 per person for a quality day trip.
- Spa treatments: about $100–$200+ per treatment; a couples massage runs $350–$400.
- Specialty dining surcharges: $25–$60 per person at resorts where the premium restaurants aren't included.
- Premium drinks: top-shelf brands and wine by the bottle are an upcharge at most mid-tier resorts.
- Tips: even where gratuities are "included," most couples still spend $150–$250 in cash tips over a week.
- Local taxes and resort fees: in Cancún, the Quintana Roo environmental tax is about $4–$5 per room, per night (about 79 pesos), paid at the resort and usually not in the package price, and Quintana Roo's Visitax adds about $15 per visitor per trip. Some resorts also add fees of $25–$50 a night.
Stacked together, extras commonly add about 30% on top of the package price. The full priced list — and how to spot each item before you book — is in our guide to all-inclusive resort hidden costs.
Compare the whole trip
Put each quote on the same basis: the same dates, number of nights, travelers, children's ages at travel, and number of rooms. Record the currency, too.
Only add costs that are not already in the quote. Leave an unknown cost marked “to confirm”; treating it as zero makes the comparison look more certain than it is.
Here is a hypothetical example—not a current offer:
| Cost for the same family and stay | Option A | Option B |
|---|---|---|
| Quoted package | $4,200 | $4,500 |
| Flights outside the package | $1,400 | $1,400 |
| Roundtrip transfers outside the package | $200 | $0 — included |
| Chosen extras outside the package | $300 | $100 |
| Estimated trip total | $6,100 | $6,000 |
For this illustration, all required charges are assumed to be covered in the listed amounts. In a real comparison, confirm that before deciding. The package with the lower starting price ends up costing $100 more for this particular plan. That does not make the other resort the better vacation; it gives you a clearer number to weigh alongside the room, setting, and experience you prefer.
And here is the same exercise with real 2026 ranges instead of round numbers — a family of four, seven nights at a value-tier Cancún resort:
| Cost | 2026 range |
|---|---|
| Resort (7 nights, value tier) | $2,400–$3,000 |
| Flights for four | $1,400–$1,600 |
| Roundtrip transfers | ~$100 |
| Extras (one excursion, tips, incidentals) | ~$400 |
| Estimated trip total | $4,300–$5,100 |
Plus the Quintana Roo environmental tax — about $4–$5 per room per night, roughly $28–$35 for the week — paid at the resort and not included above. The point is not the exact total; it is that flights, transfers, and extras add $1,900–$2,100 on top of the resort rate before anyone books a spa treatment.
A clearer price. An easier decision.

Are airport transfers included at all-inclusive resorts? Sometimes — a few brands, such as Beaches, include roundtrip airport transfers, but many resorts don't. If transfers aren't in your quote, budget about $25–$50 per person round trip for a shared shuttle, or $70–$160 per vehicle for a private transfer (2026 ranges).
Are tips included at all-inclusive resorts? Often, yes — Beaches, for example, includes taxes and gratuities, with exceptions for butlers and spa therapists. But cash tipping is still customary for housekeeping, bartenders, and servers, and most couples budget $150–$250 for a week.
Are kids' clubs included? It depends on your children's ages. At Club Med Cancún, programs for ages 4–17 are included, and programs for younger children cost extra. Always confirm your children's exact ages against the resort's policy before comparing prices.
Are flights part of an all-inclusive package? Usually not when you book the resort directly — "all-inclusive" describes what is included at the resort. Some packages do bundle flights, so check whether yours does before comparing totals.
How much extra should we budget beyond the package price? A realistic planning figure is about 30% on top of the resort price, for transfers, an excursion or two, spa, dining surcharges, and tips. Our all-inclusive hidden costs guide prices each item.
